Whale sharks are the world’s largest fish! They can measure up to 40 feet (12 meters) in length. Every year, nearly 100 juvenile whale sharks migrate to the Bay of La Paz during winter months to seek food and shelter. Join us on our fun and educational tour from October to April! You can choose to observe the whale sharks from the boat, or you can jump into the water in groups of a maximum of 5 people at a time to swim alongside these gentle giants. Videos of your experience will be shared with you afterward, at no extra cost.

What is included:

  • Snack (granola bars)

  • Beverages (water and soft drinks)

  • Videos taken by your guide will be sent to you by email at no extra cost

  • Snorkel equipment is provided (fins, mask, tuba and life jacket)

  • Permits and bracelets for access to the whale shark area

  • You will be accompanied by a bilingual guide, certified in first aid

  • Professional staff. Our captains and guides all have their valid and updated whale shark certifications and work permits issued by SEMARNAT (Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources)

  • Wetsuits

What is not included:

  • Alcoholic drinks (not permitted)

  • Tips are at your discretion, but greatly appreciated

We recommend the use of biodegradable sunscreen to help with the preservation of coral reefs. You can purchase biodegradable lotion at our office if needed.

We recommend bringing a towel, a hat and sunglasses. We recommend you bring a jacket or sweater during winter months as well.

* This activity is only offered from October to May, in accordance with the rules and schedules established by SEMARNAT (Mexican Department of Wildlife). There is no exact start or finish date since the presence of whale sharks in the bay of La Paz varies based on their yearly migration patterns. Generally, activities begin by the end of October and conclude in April (though the permit says the season continues until May, there are usually no sightings during that month and throughout the summer).

** Wildlife abundance is unpredictable and, although sightings are not guaranteed, the odds are definitely in your favor. From 2016 to 20219, we had a success rate of 100% for whale shark sightings on our tours. In 2020, we had a day without sightings, but we rebooked the customers the following day and where all able to check it off their bucket list :-)

Our tour rates are in Mexican pesos. The price quoted in USD is an approximate, and may vary according to the exchange rate. All prices include taxes. There are no hidden costs. Your reservation will be confirmed once you have contacted us and completed the deposit.
